Author Guidelines

1. Language and Style

For manuscripts submitted in Turkish, the current guidelines of the Turkish Language Association (TDK) must be adopted for spelling and grammar rules. For manuscripts submitted in English, authors are expected to ensure adherence to standard academic English grammar and spelling rules. It is essential for authors to maintain a fluent, plain, and clear language throughout the text. The use of redundant words, inverted sentences, and passive voice is to be avoided as much as possible. Editors may request manuscripts to be rewritten in accordance with editing and writing rules if necessary. Manuscripts that are not drafted in compliance with these rules will not be published.

2. Methodological Standards and Content

Manuscripts submitted to Fe Journal must not be previously published elsewhere or currently be under consideration for publication. Articles are required to be based on original research data or present an original theoretical or conceptual discussion. Literature reviews are expected to comprehensively cover the current literature on the subject and provide a balanced representation of different perspectives and approaches. Quantitative studies should extend beyond utilizing gender merely as a variable; instead, they are expected to adopt a critical perspective that questions gender-based inequalities. Authors should ensure that any article derived from a thesis is significantly distinct from the original work.

3. Formatting and Layout

·      File Format: Manuscripts must be submitted as saved in .doc format using Microsoft Word versions for Word for Windows or Apple Macintosh.

·      Font, Size, and Line Spacing: The main body of the text must be in Times New Roman, 12-point font size. Sections such as endnotes, abstracts, bibliographies, and tables must be in 10-point font size. Double-line spacing (2.0) must be used in the main text.

·      Paragraph and Heading: Paragraphs must be adjacent to each other with a first-line indent. However, the first paragraph after a subheading must follow the specific layout defined for that subheading (see Subheadings).

·      Headings must be in lowercase (except for initial letters) and left unnumbered.

·      Endnote numbers and quotation marks must follow punctuation marks.

·      Subheadings:

First-level subheadings: Must be 12-point Times New Roman, bold, and left-aligned. The first paragraph of the subsequent text must also start left-aligned. There must be two line spaces before the heading and one line space between the heading and the paragraph.

Second-level subheadings: Must be 12-point Times New Roman, bold, italic, and indented. The first line of the subsequent text must also begin with the same indentation. There must be one line space before the heading and one line space between the heading and the paragraph.

·      Quotations: Must be in 12-point Times New Roman, matching the main text. Short quotations must be enclosed in double quotation marks within the running text. Quotations longer than 30 words must be formatted as a block indent (one tab), and quotation marks must not be used. The first line of the paragraph following a block quotation must be indented.

·      Numbers and Temporal Expressions: In Turkish manuscripts, centuries are to be written out in words (e.g., “on dokuzuncu yüzyıl”), whereas in English manuscripts, the standard ordinal format is preferred (e.g., “19th century”). Decades are expressed in numerals, such as 1950s or 1850s, rather than being written out in words (e.g., expressions like “the fifties” are to be avoided). Within the running text, numbers under 100 are written out in words, while numbers 100 and above are expressed in numerals.

4. Citations and Bibliography

Fe  Journal currently utilizes the "Author-Date" style of the Chicago Manual of Style (17th edition). Authors are expected to consult the Chicago Manual of Style (17th edition) for the comprehensive guide:

https://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide/citation-guide-2.html

5. Manuscript Submission and Required Files

The Full Text file must be uploaded to the DergiPark system anonymously to ensure a double-blind peer review process. In addition to the full text, authors are required to submit the following documents:

·      Title Page: This must include the initial submission date, authors' titles, institutional affiliations, contact information, and ORCID numbers for all contributing authors.

·      Conflict of Interest Statement

·      Similarity Report: Manuscripts with an overall similarity index exceeding 15% and/or more than 3% from a single source are not admitted to the peer review process. The journal prefers the similarity index to remain below 10%.

·      AI Usage Declaration Form

·      Copyright Agreement Form

·      Author Contribution Form: Mandatory for multi-authored manuscripts.

·      Ethics Committee Approval Certificate: Mandatory for studies involving data collection from participants through techniques such as surveys, interviews, focus groups, experiments, or observations.

6. Article Types and Word Limits

·      Research Articles: Manuscripts are expected to be between 5,000 and 7,500 words, including the abstract, keywords, endnotes, and references. Regardless of the language of the manuscript, all submissions are required to include an English and a Turkish abstract not exceeding 150 words each, accompanied by five keywords.

·      Book Reviews: Submissions are expected to be between 2,500 and 4,500 words. Book reviews must be submitted with an abstract not exceeding 100 words, outlining the significance of the book, its contribution to the literature, and the reviewer's core argument or approach.

7. Authorship and Contribution Declaration

For multi-authored manuscripts, authors are required to submit a detailed statement specifying their individual contribution roles in alignment with the CRediT framework (e.g., conceptualization, methodology, formal analysis, etc.) during the submission process. All listed authors must meet the criteria for authorship. Authors may also define custom roles that specifically match the unique requirements of their manuscript.

8. Copyright and Open Access Policy

Authors retain the copyright to their work published in this journal, reserving all rights while granting the journal the right of first publication.

Published works are accessible under the journal's open access policy and the corresponding Creative Commons license. Third parties are permitted to use, share, and reproduce the material, provided that appropriate attribution is given and the initial publication in this journal is explicitly acknowledged.

Authors are entitled to share their published work in institutional repositories, personal webpages, or academic sharing platforms, on the condition that this journal is clearly cited as the original venue of publication.

The journal does not assume exclusive publication or copyrights for the published material; it holds only the right of first publication.

9. Evaluation and Peer Review Process

·      Initial Desk Review and Peer Review: Initial evaluation of the submitted manuscripts is conducted by the Editorial Board. Manuscripts deemed suitable are forwarded to at least two external reviewers for a double-blind peer review. Based on the reviewers' reports, a decision is made to accept, request revisions for, or reject the manuscript, and authors are notified as promptly as possible. In cases where the reviewers yield conflicting decisions (one acceptance and one rejection), the manuscript may be sent to a third reviewer. The same procedure applies if an author submits a formal objection to a reviewer's report.

·      Revision Process: When revisions are requested by reviewers, the revised manuscript is expected to be uploaded via the DergiPark system within one month. Revisions are re-evaluated by the reviewers or the Editorial Board in accordance with the feedback provided. Prior to publication, manuscripts undergo final editorial approval. At this stage, editors may suggest improvements to enhance the content or clarify the language and style.

·      Review Timeline: Fe Journal aims to complete the initial review process for submitted articles within an average of 30 days, and the peer review process within 60 to 90 days. These periods may be extended depending on the volume of submissions to the journal

10. Submission Deadlines

·      Submissions for the December issue must be received by the beginning of September at the latest.

·      Submissions for the June issue must be received by the beginning of March at the latest.
