Abstract

Kant, Analytic Philosophy and Metaphysics

Year 2025, Issue: 82, 4 - 25

Abstract

This article firstly adresses the impact of Kant on the movement of analytic philosophy particularly with reference to the criticism of metaphysics. In this context, it provides an evaluation of Kant’s conception and criticism of metaphysics and Wittgenstein’s approach to the problem in Tractatus and the Logical Positivist criticism of metaphysics in a comparative manner. Although it is granted that there are some differences between Kant’s critique of metaphysics and the repudiation of metaphysics that emerged in analytic philosophy, it is highlighted that both approaches generate some inconsistencies in terms of setting a limit on metaphysics. Finally, an assessment of the character of the metaphysical orientation in the current analytic philosophy is presented.
