The "Open Intellectual" proposed in this paper from the Weberian point of view is an ideal type that needs to be studied in order to gain a comprehensive understanding
regarding Turkish cultural Üfe. Why do we need such an intellectual? What is her importance in Turkish Culture that recently tries to collaborate with European Union?
What are the basic distinguishing characteristics of an open intellectual? What are her attitudes towards ethical, aesthetical, political problems of Turkish culture? These are the questions that has been dealt with in this study. By criticizing the well entrenched received view of the typical intellectual in tİıe Turkish Culture a new conceptual model regarding the need and function of an intellectual in the contemporary world has been proposed .
