Measurements of Microalbumin in Urine Samples of 24 Hours, Spot and Nightly in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract

Objective: We aimed to investigate if the nightly urine samples can be used instead of spot urine samples and 24 hour urine samples which are uncomfortable for patients, by comparing nightly urine samples with 24 hour and spot urine samples. Materials and Methods: Urine samples were collected for 24 hours, spot, nightly for the measurement microalbuminuria in sixty patients (32 men, 28 women) with diabetes mellitus. Conclusion: We suggest that the measurement of microalbuminuria in nightly urine samples which are less affected than the other collection methods (24 hour and spot urine samples) for the factors such as hydration, physical activity and collection errors, to be more sensitive.
