Measurements of Microalbumin in Urine Samples of 24 Hours, Spot and Nightly in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract

Objective: We aimed to investigate if the nightly urine samples can be used instead of spot urine samples and 24 hour urine samples which are uncomfortable for patients, by comparing nightly urine samples with 24 hour and spot urine samples. Materials and Methods: Urine samples were collected for 24 hours, spot, nightly for the measurement microalbuminuria in sixty patients (32 men, 28 women) with diabetes mellitus. Conclusion: We suggest that the measurement of microalbuminuria in nightly urine samples which are less affected than the other collection methods (24 hour and spot urine samples) for the factors such as hydration, physical activity and collection errors, to be more sensitive.

Diabetes Mellituslu Hastalarda 24 Saatlik, Anlık ve Gecelik İdrarlarda Mikroalbumin Ölçümü

Öz

Amaç: Gecelik idrar örneklerinde mikroalbümin ölçümü 24 saatlik ve anlık idrar örnekleriyle kıyaslanarak, hastalar için konforsuz bulunan 24 saatlik idrar yerine kullanılıp kullanılmayacağı araştırıldı. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Çalışmaya 24 saatlik idrarda mikroalbümin isteği olan ve yapılan sorgulamalar sonucunda diabetes mellitus tanısı dışında kronik bir hastalık, gebelik, son iki gün içinde ağır egzersiz, idrar yolu enfeksiyonu ve ateşi olanlar hariç 32'si erkek olmak üzere toplam 60 hasta alındı. Bulgular: 24 saatlik idrar örneklerinin %28'inde, anlık idrar örneklerinin %72'sinde, kreatininle düzeltilmiş anlık idrar örneklerinin %58'inde ve gecelik idrar örneklerinin %93'ünde mikroalbüminüri tespit edildi. Sonuç: Hastaların örnek toplamadaki hatalarının en aza indirgendiği ve hidrasyon, fiziksel aktivite gibi çeşitli faktörlerden en az etkileneceğini düşündüğümüz gecelik idrar numunelerinde mikroalbümin ölçümünün daha hassas bir yöntem olacağını önermekteyiz.
