THE ROLE OF LAWS IN THE UNDERSTANDING OF NATURE: REGULARITY OR NECESSITY?

Abstract

There are important views in contemporary philosophy of science literature on the nature of natural laws. One of these is the regularity theory built on Hume's view of causality, and the other is the hypothetical necessity view, which criticizes the Humean perspective and claims to be more sophisticated. The arguments in these views not only represent a conceptual philosophical system but also offer an important guideline on how we position ourselves when it comes to understanding nature or everything else. Thus, an attempt is made to develop a perspective on what kind of things the formations/properties in the universe are and how these formations/properties come about. In this study, we will address the arguments of the views developed regarding natural laws, which is one of the most important topics in the philosophy of science. Ultimately, we will make a brief assessment to take a specific side or present a cost-benefit analysis.

DOĞA KAVRAYIŞINDA YASALARIN ROLÜ: DÜZENLİLİK Mİ ZORUNLULUK MU?

Abstract

Doğa yasasının neliği üzerine çağdaş bilim felsefesi literatüründe yer edinmiş önemli görüşler vardır. Bunlardan biri Hume’un nedensellik görüşü üzerine inşa edilen düzenlilik teorisi, diğeri ise Humecu bakış açısını eleştiren ve daha sofistike bir görüş olma iddiası taşıyan varsayımlı zorunluluk görüşüdür. Bu görüşlerin içerdiği argümanlar bir taraftan kavramsal bir felsefi sistemi temsil ederken bir taraftan da söz konusu doğayı kavramak olduğunda kendimizi nasıl konumlandıracağımız veya diğer her şeyi nasıl kavrayacağımız konusunda önemli bir izlence sunar. Böylelikle evrendeki oluşumların/özelliklerin ne tür şeyler olduğuna ve bu oluşumların/özelliklerin nasıl meydana geldiğine yönelik bir bakış açısı geliştirilmeye çalışılır. Bu çalışmada bilim felsefesinin en önemli konularından biri olan doğa yasalarına yönelik geliştirilen görüşlerin argümanlarına değineceğiz. Her şeyin sonunda belirli bir tarafı tutmak veya bir kar-zarar tablosu ortaya çıkarmak için kısa bir değerlendirme yapacağız.
