Abstract

Abstract

This study explains the features of Davidson's philosophy of language and meaning from a holistic perspective. Davidson attempted to construct an intertwined system of language, mind and action thought. Within this systematic structure, the characteristics of language is pointed and the conditions for a theory of meaning is given. Davidson has devoloped his own theory of meaning on the basis of these conditions. However, there is a need to analyse his works, which are spread over years in the form of articles, in order to present a holistic view of language. In this context, the study first addresses the basic assumptions of his philosophy. On this basis, it analyses the idea of language and meaning in detail by making use of commentators. Accordingly, the central place of the concept of truth in Davidson's philosophy, the influences of Quine and Tarski, the characteristics of the idea of language and the approach to meaning are shown.
