The Role of Sense Experience in BonJour’s Coherentism

Year 2016, Issue: 22, 405 - 422, 01.09.2016

Abstract

In his work The Structure of Empirical Knowledge, Laurence BonJour claims that foundationalism is an implausible position and endorses coherentism. One of the most important arguments that are introduced against coherentism is the Isolation Argument according to which a system of beliefs can provide empirical justification even if it is totally isolated from the external world. BonJour challenges this argument with the notion of Observation Requirement that he uses to explain the relation between systems of beliefs and experience. The aim of this study is to present and evaluate BonJour’s Observation Requirement in order to understand the rational role of observation and experience in the process of justification. It will be claimed that BonJour’s argument is not sufficient to account for the rational relation between systems of beliefs and the external world

BONJOUR’UN BAĞDAŞIMCILIĞINDA DUYU DENEYİMLERİNİN ROLÜ

Year 2016, Issue: 22, 405 - 422, 01.09.2016

Abstract

The Structure of Empirical Knowledge Deneysel Bilginin Yapısı isimli eserinde, Laurence BonJour, temelciliğin savunulamaz bir görüş olduğunu iddia ederek bağdaşımcı bir yaklaşım öne sürmektedir.
