Publication Ethics
Folklor Akademi Dergisi (Journal of Folklore Academy) is committed to the principles of transparency, integrity, fairness, and accountability in scholarly publishing. The journal follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices, Code of Conduct, and other relevant COPE guidelines throughout all editorial and publication processes. Editors, reviewers, and authors are expected to comply with these internationally recognized ethical standards.
All submitted manuscripts must comply with accepted principles of research and publication ethics. Research involving human participants must have obtained approval from an appropriate ethics committee where required, and informed consent must have been secured when applicable. Research involving animals must comply with relevant national and international ethical regulations.
The journal does not tolerate any form of publication misconduct, including but not limited to:
- Plagiarism
- Self-plagiarism
- Data fabrication
- Data falsification
- Salami publication
- Duplicate publication
- Gift, guest, or ghost authorship
- Peer-review manipulation
- Undisclosed conflicts of interest
All manuscripts may be screened using plagiarism detection software before entering the peer-review process. Allegations of research or publication misconduct are handled in accordance with COPE recommendations and flowcharts. When necessary, authors may be requested to provide explanations. Confirmed ethical violations may result in rejection of the manuscript or, if already published, correction, retraction, or an editorial expression of concern.
Responsibilities of Editors
Editors shall:
- Evaluate submissions solely on scholarly merit, originality, and relevance to the journal's scope.
- Make editorial decisions without discrimination based on nationality, gender, institutional affiliation, political opinion, or religious belief.
- Ensure a fair double-blind peer-review process.
- Maintain confidentiality throughout the editorial process.
- Withdraw from editorial handling where conflicts of interest exist.
- Follow COPE flowcharts and recommendations when addressing ethical concerns.
Responsibilities of Reviewers
Reviewers shall:
- Provide objective, constructive, and timely evaluations.
- Treat all manuscripts as confidential documents.
- Decline review assignments where conflicts of interest exist.
- Base recommendations exclusively on academic merit.
- Inform the editor of any suspected ethical misconduct.
Responsibilities of Authors
Authors shall:
- Submit original and scientifically sound research.
- Properly acknowledge all sources.
- Include as authors only those who have made substantial scholarly contributions.
- Confirm that the manuscript has not been published previously and is not under consideration elsewhere.
- Disclose any conflicts of interest.
- Notify the editorial office promptly if a significant error is discovered after publication.
Editorial Policy
Folklor Akademi Dergisi (Journal of Folklore Academy) is an international peer-reviewed scholarly journal published quarterly in March, June, September, and December.
Approximately 80% of the articles published in each issue consist of studies directly related to folklore, while the remaining 20% comprise interdisciplinary research that contributes theoretically or methodologically to folklore studies.
The journal:
- Operates a double-blind peer-review system.
- Makes publication decisions based on at least two independent peer-review reports.
- Is committed to fairness, transparency, and academic integrity.
- Bases editorial decisions solely on scholarly quality.
- Does not discriminate on the grounds of language, race, ethnicity, gender, nationality, political opinion, religion, or institutional affiliation.
- Adheres to the principles and recommendations of COPE in all publication ethics procedures.
- May issue corrections, retractions, or editorial expressions of concern when necessary.
- Supports the principles of open science, research integrity, and responsible scholarly publishing.
