Labor relations has radically transformed with globalization process. Flexible working conditions have widespreaeded and precariousness have become a norm, gradually. The precautions of workers’ health and safety have lost its importance in daily routine according to employers, who comprehend these precautions as extra costs, as the precarious working conditions spread day by day
In 2000’s Turkey, work accidents mostly occur in mining industry, construction industry, and metal industry. In the year 2014, a coal mine accident happened in Soma and 301 miners have died. The accident caused a public indignation, and the debate on the workers’ health and safety issues still goes on, since then.
In this study, first of all we will briefly analyze the negative effects of globalization on the working life, moving from the fact that inadequate precautions on the workers’ health and safety, which are deeply related with global competition. After that, we will point out to some facts about work accidents and occupational diseases in Turkey, with help of some basic statistics. The term “work murderers” preferred to use instead of “work accidents” in this study, and the main goal of the study is aim to contribute the debate, which evaluate work murderers directly related with main principles of current socio-economic environment, due to chronic lack of adequate precautions.
