In this study, a central composite design, which is a response surface methodology module was used to optimize
the operating parameters of the Fenton oxidation process on the removal of color from synthetic wastewater
containing malachite green. The experiments were carried out using the synthetic malachite green solution at 25
ºC and pH 3.4. Important parameters such as mixing time, Fe2+ concentration (0.01-0.15 mM), H2O2
concentration (0,4-4 mM), and malachite green concentration (25-100 mg/L) were optimized via response
surface methodology. Maximum color removal yield (99.33%) was obtained at an malachite green concentration
of 50.97 mg/L, an Fe2+ concentration of 0.11 mM, an H2O2 concentration of 2.14 mM and at 37.70 minute
mixing time. Under optimal conditions, the COD removal efficiency was 95%. The results showed that the
Fenton process may be used as an effective technology for the removal of color from wastewaters containing
malachite green.
