Abstract

Year 2022, Volume: 7 Issue: 4, 358 - 374, 23.12.2022

Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the time of goals scored and conceded in the Turkish Super League matches in the 2021-2022 football season according to the league ranking. In the study, the time of the goals scored and conceded in the matches of the 20 teams competing in the Super League in the 2021-2022 season was examined. The data were obtained from the league archive on the website of the Turkish Football Federation. The teams were divided into 3 groups as 1-7 (n=7), 8-14 (n=7) and 15-20 (n=6) place intervals according to the ranking in the end of league. The number of goals scored and conceded by the teams in the 0-15, 16-30, 31-45, 0-45, 46-60, 61-75, 76-90 and 46-90 minute intarvals of the matches was recorded. In the data analysis, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) for comparisons between groups and Bonferroni and Games-Howell tests for pairwise comparisons of groups were used. The analysis results indicated that teams between 15-20 ranking scored fewer goals than teams between 1-7 ranking in the 16-30, 31-45, 0-45 and 46-60 min. intervals of matches (p<0.05). However, it was determined that the teams between 1-7 ranking conceded fewer goals than the teams between 15-20 ranking in the 0-45 (first half), 46-90 (second half) and 61-75 min. intervals of matches (p<0.05). Consequently, it may be said that the teams at the top rankings in 2021-2022 football season of Super League are generally successful by scoring more goals in the first half of matches and conceding fewer goals in the second half.
