Contemporary methods for determining root canal working length in primary teeth: digital radiography and electronic apex locators

Abstract
With developing technology, in endodontics, like in other fields of dentistry, different approaches are introduced as means for improving success, efficacy and comfort of treatment. In pedodontics, a branch of dentistry where patient compliance and treatment periods are crucial, the new treatment approaches help dentists perform more efficient and faster. Currently, digital radiography and apex locators are widely used in the root canal treatment of permanent teeth. The aim of this review was to discuss the success and advantages of digital radiography techniques and apex locators in root canal treatment of the the primary teeth. In scope of previous studies, it can be said that these systems are very useful in reducing the chair time and the success rates are comparable with conventional radiographs.

Abstract
Gelişen teknoloji ile birlikte diş hekimliğinin bir çok alanında olduğu gibi endodontide de tedavi başarısını, etkinliğini ve konforunu arttırmaya yönelik yeni yaklaşımlar geliştirilmektedir. Bu yeniliklerin, hasta uyumu ve tedavi sürelerinin büyük önem taşıdığı çocuk diş hekimliğinde sağladıkları faydalar, hekimlerin tedavi işlemlerini daha hızlı ve daha etkin bir şekilde gerçekleştirilmelerini sağlamaktadır. Bu derlemede son dönemde daimi dişlerde kullanımları oldukça yaygınlaşan dijital görüntüleme teknikleri ve apeks bulucuların süt dişi kök kanal tedavilerinde çalışma boyunun belirlenmesindeki başarıları ve hekimlere sağladıkları avantajlar değerlendirilmiştir. Yapılan çalışmalar ışıgında bu sistemlerin başarısının geleneksel radyografilerle karşılaştırılabilir durumda olduğu ve tedavi sürelerinin kısaltılmasında oldukça yararlı olduğu söylenebilir.
