Abstract

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the postoperative satisfaction of the patients who attended to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic, Faculty of Dentistry, Gazi University for dentofacial deformity correction and underwent orthognatic surgery.

MATERIALS AND METHOD: Thirty-six subjects (20 female, 16 male) without any syndromes who received orthognatic surgery at least 6 months ago and whose orthodontic treatments were finished, were included in this study. Patients were divided into three groups according to the surgical technique, as Lefort 1 osteotomy (Group 1), bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy (Group 2) and bimaxillary surgery (Group 3). Patients were asked to complete a form including demographic information, anamnesis and Post Surgical Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire (PSPSQ), a questionnaire which is used to assess patient satisfaction after surgical operation. The statistical analysis was performed using a statistical software package at a significance level of p<0.05.

RESULTS: There was no statistically significant difference among groups in terms of demographic variables. A high level of postoperative satisfaction was found in the majority of patients. The majority of the patients reported a high level of satisfaction for the functional and psychological outcomes of orthognathic surgery.

CONCLUSION: It was observed that orthognathic surgery had a positive impact on postoperative satisfaction in the evaluated patients.

Abstract

AMAÇ: Bu araştırmanın amacı Gazi Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi, Ağız Diş ve Çene Cerrahisi Kliniği’ne dentofasiyal deformite onarımı için başvuran ve ortognatik cerrahi uygulanmış hastalarda postoperatif hasta memnuniyetinin değerlendirilmesidir.

GEREÇ VE YÖNTEM: Çalışmaya en az 6 ay önce cerrahi tedavi uygulanmış, ortodontik tedavisi tamamlanmış ve herhangi bir sendromu olmayan 20’si kadın 16’sı erkek toplam 36 birey dahil edildi. Hastalar uygulanan cerrahi teknik göz önüne alınarak; Lefort 1 osteotomisi (Grup 1), bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomisi (Grup 2) ve çift çene operasyonu (Grup 3) olarak 3 ayrı gruba bölündü. Hastalara ilk bölümü demografik bilgiler ve hasta öyküsünden oluşan, ikinci bölümü ise operasyon sonrası hasta memnuniyetini ölçmek için kullanılan Cerrahi Sonrası Hasta Memnuniyeti anketini içeren bir form doldurtuldu. Çalışmadan elde edilen verilerin istatistiksel analizi bir software kullanılarak yapıldı ve p<0.05 değeri anlamlı kabul edildi.

BULGULAR: Demografik özellikler açısından gruplar arasında istatistiksel fark gözlenmedi. Hastaların büyük çoğunluğunda operasyon sonrası memnuniyetin yüksek olduğu bulgulandı. Hastaların büyük çoğunluğu ortognatik cerrahinin fonksiyonel ve psikolojik sonuçları açısından yüksek oranda memnuniyet belirtti.

SONUÇ: Ortognatik cerrahinin değerlendirilen hasta grubunda postoperatif memnuniyeti olumlu etkilediği görüldü.
