He received his BSc degree in Mathematics and MSc and PhD degrees in Cryptography from Middle East Technical University (METU). He is currently the head of Department of Cyber Security and the director of Cyber Defense and Security Research Center in METU. Before joining METU, he was a teaching assistant at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) during his PhD studies and post-doctoral researcher at Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB).
Dr. Mehmet Sevri is a faculty member in the Department of Computer Engineering at Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University, with over 14 years of experience. He received his Ph.D. from Gazi University, specializing in web application security using deep learning, which led to patent applications on an explainable AI-based web firewall system.
Dr. Sevri has held research positions at Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University and Gazi University, focusing on AI-based intrusion detection and cybersecurity. He also gained industry experience as a computer engineer at a public institution and as a transmission engineer at Turkcell, working on network infrastructure projects such as 3G backbone integration.
He has co-authored numerous articles in important and impactful journals, addressing topics in web security, artificial intelligence, and machine learning for medical diagnostics. Additionally, he holds both national and international patents related to explainable AI-based web security systems.
His expertise includes deep learning, cybersecurity, web application security, and explainable AI models. Dr. Sevri is actively involved in AI and cybersecurity projects, including those funded by TÜBİTAK and other institutions, focusing on creating robust web protection systems and advancing cybersecurity education.
