A New Agricultural Product: Caper Plant

Abstract

Caper plant, an important commercial product in international scale, is known with its cultivated gamma used at nutrition since old times. Although it is a well-known condiment in Western European countries, neither plant nor flower is remarkable in Turkey since it does not have a place in fooding behavior of Turks. Caper plant, known as a sun-loving and tropic plant, is an important exchange-yielding plant for our country. It is a great advantage from the point that it helps to decrease the idle labor force and supply adequate income to the pickers in summer time. It has been used for different purposes as regards to its species and varieties. Canned caper plant is being consumed as pickles, salad, in pizza topping, garniture for fish or venison dishes. Besides its special flavor, its effects on digestion system and appetizing also encourages its usage. Within this review paper; a guideline about caper plant, which is not very well-known in our country, has been given and emphasized that it has to be cultivated because of its economic importance.
