Determination of Rosehip Marmalade Consumption Habits of Rural and Urban-Based Female Consumers (Tokat Province Case)

Abstract

In this study, consumption habits of rosehip marmalade of rural and urban-based female consumers in the province of Tokat were examined. In the research, 119 rural and 129 urban-based female consumers were surveyed via face-to-face interview technique. The mean age of women in rural was 44.28 and average age of the women in urban was identified as 37.93. Average living time at the city of rural based females in the survey was determined as 33.63 years while the time duration of living of urban based females at the city was 26.30 years. When educational status of rural-based women was analyzed as the largest rate; 34.45% of them were identified as elementary school graduates. On the other hand, 37.98% of women of urban-origin were seen as high school graduates. It was observed that 74.79% of rural-based women worked as housewives and 51.16% of urban-based women worked as officials. Furthermore, factor analysis was conducted according to the opinions of female consumers about rosehip marmalade in both rural and urban area. Responses of women in rural were grouped under five main factor and consumption of rosehips obtained by conventional methods was the most important factor. Responses of women of urban origin were gathered under four main factors and the most important factor was idea ofthe necessity and nourishing property of rosehip marmalade. As a result, differences for consumption of rosehip marmalades amongst urban and rural based female consumers were revealed with respect to consumption of marmalades prepared by the traditional methods and consumption of marmalades ready to consume.The factors that cause this difference can be expressed as educational status, employment status and changing consumption patterns of urban-based women
