LEISURE ATTITUDE SCALE: THE STUDY OF RELIABILITY AND VALIDITY

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to test the reliability and validity of the “Leisure Attitude Scale” (LAS) for Turkish university students. The LAS administered 117 male (Mage= 23.04±2.17) and 101 female (Mage= 21.82±1.85) university students. Leisure Attitude Scale is a 36-item self-report measure of attitudes towards leisure (Ragheb &Beard, 1982) and consists of the following three subscales: (a) cognitive (12 item), (b) affective (12 item) and (c) behavioral (12 item). Participants were asked to rate each item on a 5-point Likert scale ranging from 1(strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). Principle component Factor Analysis with Varimax Rotation for testing factor structure of Turkish version of Leisure Attitude Scale supported 3 factor structure for 218 university students and 36 items explains %54 of variance. KMO value of the scale was found as .935. Cronbach Alpha internal consistency value was also calculated for the three subscales and total scale. The results revealed the following alpha reliability coefficients: Affective= .92, Cognitive= .81 and Behavioral= .91. The reliability of the total scale was found to be high (α= .97). It can be concluded that the Leisure Attitude Scale is a reliable and valid instrument to measure the attitudes of Turkish university students towards leisure.

BOŞ ZAMAN TUTUM ÖLÇEĞİ: GEÇERLİK VE GÜVENİRLİK ÇALIŞMASI

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı “Boş Zaman Tutum Ölçeği (BZTÖ)”nin geçerlik ve güvenirliğinin Türk üniversite öğrencileri için test etmektir. BZTÖ, 117 erkek (X yaş = 23.04± 2.17) ve 101 kadın (X yaş = 21.82± 1.85) üniversite öğrencisine uygulanmıştır. BZTÖ (a) bilişsel (12 madde) (b) duyuşsal (12 madde) (c) davranışsal (12 madde) olmak üzere 3 alt boyuttan ve toplam 36 maddeden oluşmaktadır (Ragheb&Beard, 1982). Katılımcıların boş zaman aktivitelerine yönelik tutumları 5’li Likert tipi ölçek üzerinden değerlendirilmektedir. BZTÖ’ nün faktör yapısının Türk egzersiz katılımcılara uygunluğunu ve yapı geçerliğini test etmek için katılımcıların boş zaman aktivitelerine yönelik tutum puanlarına varimax dönüştürmesine göre yapılan Temel Bileşenler Faktör Analizi, 3 faktörlü yapıyı desteklemekte ve 218 üniversite öğrencisi için ölçeğin % 54’ünü açıklamaktadır. Ölçeğin KMO değeri .935 bulunmuştur. Cronbach Alpha iç tutarlılık katsayısı üç alt boyut ve toplam ölçek için hesaplanmıştır. Buna göre; Duyuşsal= .92, Bilişsel= .81 ve Davranışsal= .91 olarak bulunmuştur. Ölçeğin toplam güvenirlik katsayısı yüksek derecede güvenilir düzeyindedir (α= .97). Sonuç olarak, Boş Zaman Tutum Ölçeği Türk üniversite öğrencilerinin boş zamana yönelik tutumlarını değerlendirmek için geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçek olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır.
