THE RELIABILITY AND THE VALIDITY OF THE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY ASSESSMENT QUESTIONNAIRE (PAAQ) ON UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the reliability and the validity of the Physical Activity Assessment Questionnaire (PAAQ) on university students. PAAQ was found reliable and valid for adults. In this study PAAQ was modified to university student population. In order to assess the reliability of new questionnaire by test-retest method, 248 students (Mage = 21.73±2.76 years) and to assess validity 21 students (Mage = 21.47±1.47 years) were included in this study. PAAQ were answered twice with two weeks of interval by the subjects. For the school, transport, housework, climbing stairs, and sport activities sections, METs/week (Metabolic Equivalent/week) values were calculated for each subject. Intraclass Correlation Coefficient and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used for statistical analysis. The test-retest scores of METs/week values which were calculated from school, transport, housework, climbing stairs, and sport activity sections were between R1=.66 and R1=.83 (p<0.001). PAAQ and activity diary was used simultaneously for validity which was found r=.58 (p<0.001). Reliability values PAAQ of university students were medium and high, validity values of PAAQ of university students were medium.
