UNDERSTANDING THE FUTURE PRIORITIES OF POLICE HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS THROUGH AN ANALYSIS OF THEIR VISION STATEMENTS
Abstract
Vision statements are brief and core declarations that communicate organizations’ long-term goals and desirable future. In more specific terms, vision statements describe where an organization would like to be in the future - the destination. This study explores the future priorities of police higher education institutions by figuring out the prominent themes in their vision statements. The sample of the study consists of 17 institutions that are all members of AEPC (The Association of European Police Colleges). Statements of these higher education institutions were accessed over the internet, and the data collected were analysed via content analysis. This study fills an important gap in the current literature with regard to police higher education institutions by analysing their vision statements, which has not been done before. The findings highlight that vision statements are grouped under ten main themes: social responsibility, security strategies and approaches, educational, research, administrational, partnerships, quality assurance, leadership, values and human resources.
