Social Studies and Reading Skills

Abstract

Most of the social studies materials are composed of written texts. And this situation causes social studies teachers to have very important duties in education and development of reading which is a type of ability. Social studies students getting to a desired level of success is parallel to their learning something from written texts. Reading is composed of different sub-abilities. The most important reading abilities that should be taught and developed can be expressed as; making up vocabulary, reading comprehension and study-research abilities.

Sosyal Bilgiler ve Okuma Becerileri

Abstract

Sosyal bilgiler materyallerinin büyük bir çoğunluğu yazılı metinlerden oluşmaktadır. Bu durum bir beceri türü olan okumanın, öğretimi ve geliştirilmesinde sosyal bilgiler öğretmenlerine önemli görevler yüklenmesine sebep olmaktadır. Sosyal bilgilerde öğrencilerin istenilen düzeyde başarıyı elde etmeleri, yazılı metinlerden öğrenme seviyeleri ile doğru orantılıdır. Okuma çeşitli alt becerilerden oluşmaktadır. Bu derslerde öğretilmesi-geliştirilmesi gereken önemli okuma becerileri; kelime hazinesi oluşturma, okuduğunu anlama ve çalışma-araştırma becerileri şeklinde ifade edilebilir.
