The purpose of this study is to test whether there exist significant differences between the achievement of experimental group using cooperative learning methods and that of control group using traditional book based teaching method in Turkish Geography course. The research had been carried out at the department of Primary Education, Faculty of Education, Niğde University in 2002-2003 spring semester. The analysis consists of two groups: experimental group and control group. Throughout the research, conventional teaching methods in control group and the cooperative learning methods in the experimental group were used. Six weeks later, t-test was used in order to see the tangible effects of the applied methods on the academic achievements in geography. Bu deneysel araştırmanın amacı, ülkemizde lisans düzeyinde sınıf öğretmenliği bölümü 1. sınıflarında zorunlu ders olarak görülen “Türkiye Coğrafyası” dersinin “Türkiye\'nin Fizikî Coğrafyası” konularının öğretiminde iş birliğine dayalı öğrenmenin uygulandığı deney grubu ile geleneksel öğretim yönteminin uygulandığı kontrol grubunun akademik başarıları arasında anlamlı farklılıkların olup olmadığını belirlemektir. Araştırma 2002-2003 öğretim yılı bahar döneminde, Niğde Üniversitesi, Eğitim Fakültesi, İlköğretim Bölümü Sınıf Öğretmenliği Ana Bilim Dalı 1. sınıf öğrencileri üzerinde gerçekleştirilmiştir.
