Yaşlı Bir Olgunun Yoğun Bakım Ünitesinde Myra Estrin Levine’nin Koruma Modeline Göre Hemşirelik Bakımı

Abstract

Dünya üzerinde yaşam süresinin uzaması yaşlıların genel nüfus içindeki oranını hızla arttırmaktadır. Yaşlı nüfusun artmasıyla birlikte sunulan sağlık hizmetlerine duyulan ihtiyacın artış göstermesi öngörülmektedir. Yaşlı bireylerin bakımında hemşireler öncü roldedir. Hemşirelik bakımında modellerin kullanımı analitik düşünme becerisini, amaç belirleme ve geliştirme yeteneğini kazanmada hemşireye rehberlik etmektedir. Yaşlı bireylere bütüncül bakım verilirken Myra Estrin Levine gibi sistematik değerlendirme yapabilen kuramcıların hemşirelik sürecinde kullanılabilirliği artmaktadır. Bu olgu sunumunun amacı, yaşlı bir yoğun bakım olgusunun Levine’nin koruma modeline göre ele alınması idi. Yoğun bakım ünitesindeki yaşlı bir hastanın yer aldığı bu olguda hemşirelik süreci, bireyin bütünlüğünü koruma ve sürdürmede uyum kavramı üzerinde duran, Myra Levine’nin koruma modeline göre ele alındı. Olguda yaşlı bireyin yaşam kalitesini artırmayı, fonksiyonel durumunu geliştirmeyi ve iyilik halinin geliştirilmesini hedefleyerek hazırlanan hemşirelik bakımı Levine’nin dört temel koruma ilkesine (enerjinin, yapısal, kişisel ve sosyal bütünlüğün korunması) göre sistematik olarak planlandı. Bakım planı ile yapılan uygulamalara yaşlı birey ve ailesinin yanıtını değerlendirildi ve gerekli görülenlerde gereksinimler doğrultusunda yeniden düzenlendi. Myra Levine’in koruma modeli yoğun bakım ünitesindeki yaşlı hastanın bakımında hemşireler tarafından kolaylıkla kullanılabildi ve olumlu sonuçları gözlemlendi.

Nursing Care of an Older Adult in the Intensive Care Unit According to the Protection Model of Myra Estrin Levine

Abstract

The prolongation of life expectancy rapidly increases the rate of older adults in the general population. With the increase in the older population, it is predicted that the need for health services will increase. Nurses play a leading role in the care of older adults. The use of models in nursing care guides nurses in gaining analytical thinking skills, goal setting, and development skills. While providing holistic care to older individuals, the usability of theorists such as Myra Estrin Levine, who can make a systematic evaluation, increases in the nursing process. The purpose of this case report was to handle the nursing care of an older adult in the intensive care unit according to Levine's protection model, which emphasizes the concept of adaptation in protecting and maintaining the integrity of the individual. In this case, the nursing care, which was prepared with the aim of increasing the quality of life, improving functional status, and improving the well-being of the older individual, was systematically planned according to Levine's four basic protection principles (protection of energy, structural, personal and social integrity). The response of the older individual and their family to the applications made with the care plan was evaluated and rearranged according to the needs as deemed necessary. Nurses easily used Myra Levine's protection model in the care of older patients in the intensive care unit, and positive results were observed.
