Year 2024, Volume: 7 Issue: 3, 171 - 183, 31.12.2024

Abstract

Aim: It is an examination of the positive caregiving experiences of family members who care for individuals with dementia.
Materials and Methods: Data of the descriptive cross-sectional study were conducted in 7 different inpatient services and home health services units of Gebze Fatih State Hospital between March 2022 and January 2023. The sample consisted of 167 individuals with dementia and family caregivers. The data were collected by face-to-face interview method, Socio-demographic Form for Care-receiver and Caregiver, Revised Standardized Mini-Mental Test, Neuropsychiatric Inventory, Katz Activities of Daily Living Scale, Instrumental Activities of Daily Living Scale, Scale for Positive Aspects of Caregiving Experience (SPACE). In the analysis of the data; number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson correlation test, t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and post hoc (Tukey, LSD) tests were used.
Results: The caregivers’ total mean score on SPACE is 118.48±17.10. A significant relationship was determined between personal gain, self-esteem and the social aspect of care and the average age of the caregiver, and between self-esteem and the social aspect of care and the year of education (p<0.05). It was determined that caregivers who received support in care, who cared for individuals with advanced stage dementia with fewer neuropsychiatric symptoms, who were not actively working, who were younger, and whose income level was low had more positive care experiences than other groups.
Conclusion: Caregivers had a sufficiently positive caregiving experience during the care process. It may be recommended to identify, reinforce, develop and integrate positive care experiences into nursing care during a challenging process such as caregiving.

Demanslı Bireylere Bakım Veren Aile Üyelerinin Olumlu Bakım Verme Deneyimlerinin İncelenmesi

Year 2024, Volume: 7 Issue: 3, 171 - 183, 31.12.2024
https://doi.org/10.47141/geriatrik.1501264

Abstract

Thanks

Çalışmamıza katılan demanslı bireylere ve bakım veren aile üyelerine teşekkür ederiz.
