Social Exclusion and Associated Factors Among Older Adults

Year 2025, Volume: 8 Issue: 2, 112 - 121, 30.08.2025

Abstract

Aim: This study aimed to assess the level of social exclusion and identify its influencing factors in adults aged 65 and over living in Burdur, Türkiye.
Materials and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 365 older adults hospitalized between February and July 2022. Data were collected using a structured sociodemographic questionnaire and the social exclusion scale for the elderly. Statistical analyses included descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, independent sample t-tests, and multiple linear regression to determine the predictors of social exclusion.
Results: The average social exclusion score among the participants was 61.15±14.57. Multiple linear regression analysis indicated that income level was a significant predictor, explaining 50% of the variance in social exclusion scores, while place of residence accounted for an additional 11%. The findings highlight that lower income levels and certain living conditions are key contributors to social exclusion among older adults in Burdur.
Conclusion: These insights underscore the need for targeted interventions to mitigate the impact of socio-economic disparities and enhance social inclusion.

Yaşlı Yetişkinler Arasında Sosyal Dışlanma ve İlişkili Faktörler

Year 2025, Volume: 8 Issue: 2, 112 - 121, 30.08.2025
