Uzay Ekonomisinin Belirleyicileri: Kanada Üzerine Ampirik Uygulama

Abstract

Kanada, 1962 yılında fırlatılan Alouette-I uydusuyla uzay çağına giriş yapmıştır. Yarım asrı aşkın bir süredir uzayda var olan Kanada, uzay endüstrisini robotik, uydu iletişimi, uydu radar görüntüleri gibi çeşitli niş alanlarda konumlandırmıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı Kanada uzay ekonomisini incelemektir. Bu kapsamda uzay endüstrisinin belirleyicileri dikkate alınarak uzay ekonomisi üzerindeki etkileri ampirik olarak ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Uzay bütçesi, uzay istihdamı ve uzay ihracatı uzay ekonomisinin belirleyicileri olarak modele dahil edilmiştir. 1996-2022 dönemine ait yıllık veriler kullanılarak ampirik uygulama gerçekleştirilmiştir. Model tahmininde Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlar uzay bütçesi, uzay ihracatı ve uzay istihdamının uzay ekonomisi üzerinde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı ve pozitif bir etkisinin olduğunu göstermektedir. İhracat odaklı uzay teknolojilerinin üretilmesi uzay endüstrisinden elde edilecek gelirlerin artmasını sağlayabilir. ESA, NASA gibi önemli uzay ajansları ile iş birlikleri Kanada özel sektör firmalarının yeni teknolojilerde öncü olmasına, inovasyonun güçlenmesine ve iş birliklerinin genişletilmesine olanak sağlayabilir. Ayrıca bu tür iş birliklerinin devam etmesi sektörün sürdürülebilirliği için oldukça önemlidir.

Determinants of Space Economics: An Empirical Application on Canada

Abstract

Canada entered the space age in 1962 with the launch of the Alouette-I satellite. With more than half a century of experience in space, Canada has positioned its space industry in various niche areas such as robotics, satellite communications, and satellite radar imaging. The purpose of this study is to examine the Canadian space economy. Within this scope, the determinants of the space industry have been considered, and their effects on the space economy have been empirically examined. The space budget, space employment, and space exports have been included in the model as determinants of the space economy. An empirical application was conducted using annual data from the period 1996-2022. The ARDL method was used in the model estimation. The results obtained show that the space budget, space exports, and space employment have a statistically significant and positive effect on the space economy. The production of export-oriented space technologies can increase the revenues obtained from the space industry. Collaborations with major space agencies such as ESA and NASA can enable Canadian private sector companies to be pioneers in new technologies, strengthen innovation, and expand collaborations. Furthermore, the continuation of such collaborations is crucial for the sustainability of the sector.
