Görünüm (Journal of Art, Design & Social Sciences) is a peer-reviewed, open accessed international electronic journal published in Turkish and English by Kocaeli University Faculty of Fine Arts. The main purpose of Görünüm is to publish original research, studies and compilations that are expected to contribute to academic knowledge on theoretical and practical issues, especially in the field of fine arts. The journal aims to provide a scientific opening of the art fields.

Vision includes scientific articles in Fine Arts and Design, as well as articles dealing with art-related problems from Social Sciences, Humanities, Communication and Education Sciences. Similarly, studies that contribute to the scientific publication culture in terms of quantity and quality are published in the fields of interdisciplinary studies. View magazine is published twice a year, as Spring and Fall.

In addition to scientific articles in the field of Fine Arts and Design, Görünüm also includes articles addressing art-related issues in the fields of Social Sciences, Humanities, Communication and Educational Sciences. Similarly, studies that contribute qualitatively to the scientific publication culture in interdisciplinary fields are published. The journal publishes original articles (quantitative, qualitative or review studies) in the field of study. The journal is published once a year. However, as of January 2026, the journal has adopted a continuous publication model. Articles are published once they have been accepted. All articles are assigned a DOI number.

Submitted manuscripts should be written in MS Office .DOC or .DOCX extensions and should include title (Turkish and English), abstract (Turkish and English), keywords (Turkish and English), references and appendices, if any. For research articles, Abstract, English Abstract, Introduction (Problem, Purpose/Hypotheses, Importance, Limitations, Assumptions), Methods (Research Model, Population and Sample / Study Group, Data Collection Tools, Data Analysis Techniques), Results, Conclusion, Discussion and Suggestions, and References should include the main headings, followed by an Extended Abstract of maximum 750 words in English.

Articles can be published in Turkish or English. The abstract and keywords should be written in both languages. Articles written in Turkish should include an Extended Abstract in English, and articles written in English should include an Extended Abstract section.

Under the title and the names of the author(s), a Turkish Abstract consisting of 150-250 words in Times New Roman font and 9 pt. font size, a maximum of 3 and a maximum of 5 keywords should be written. Under Abstract, Keywords, the English title and Abstract, Keywords should be written following the same rules. Commas should be used between keywords.

Notes or acknowledgments about the authors and the study should be written as footnotes.

Authors should include their ORCID numbers, institutional information and e-mail addresses as footnotes on the abstract pages of their studies.

APA format should be taken as a basis for reference indication in the texts and display of images, tables, etc.

“Ethics Committee Approval Document” must be attached for studies requiring an ethics committee decision. Scientific research ethics is expected to be emphasized in the studies. (See Ethical Principles and Publication Policy).

1. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE EDITOR
1.1. Impartiality and Editorial Freedom: The editors evaluate the submitted manuscript proposals to ensure that they are appropriate to the scope of the journal and that they are clearly written in accordance with the originality of the work and scientific criteria. The editors do not take into account the race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, nationality or political views of the authors submitting the article proposal. Research containing such discriminatory statements will not be evaluated. The decision to revise or publish cannot be influenced by institutions other than the editorial board of the journal.
1.2. Confidentiality: Editors do not share the data of a submitted manuscript with anyone other than the corresponding author, referees and the editorial board. They ensure that articles evaluated by at least two referees are evaluated according to the double blind refereeing system and keep the referees confidential.
1.3. Disclosure and Differences of Opinion: Editors and editorial board members do not use unpublished information in an article submitted to the Journal for their own research purposes. Editors should not be in a conflict of interest regarding candidate manuscripts.
1.4. Ethics Committee Approval: Separate ethics committee approval must be obtained for clinical and experimental human and animal studies (including questionnaires, interview forms, etc.) that require Ethics Committee approval, and this approval must be stated and documented in the article.

2. RESPONSIBILITIES OF AUTHORS
2.1. Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must submit completely original work. Authors should not exceed the maximum 10% plagiarism limit set by Görünüm Journal. Plagiarism scanning is performed with applications such as iThenticate before the referee process. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is not accepted.
2.2. Conflicts of Interest: Authors should inform Görünüm Journal via the DergiPark system to avoid conflicts of interest at the earliest possible stage.
2.3. Declaration: Individuals and institutions that provide financial and scientific support to the research should be indicated by adding a footnote to the title of the study.
2.4. Scientific Writing Criteria: Authors should ensure that the work and results are presented accurately, followed by an objective discussion of the significance of the work. The candidate paper should contain sufficient details and references.
2.5. Data Access and Storage: Authors are required to retain the raw data of their work. If necessary, they should make them available for editorial review upon request by the Journal.
2.6. Multiple, Duplicate, Redundant or Simultaneous Submission/Publication: Authors should submit a manuscript that has not been previously published elsewhere. The candidate manuscript should not have been simultaneously under consideration in another publication.
2.7. Authorship of the article: Only people who fulfill the authorship criteria should be listed as authors in the content of the article. These authorship criteria are as follows;
- Research Idea
- Methodology
- Research
- Data Collection
- Data Analysis
- Honorary Authorship
- Original Article Writing
- Revision
The corresponding author should indicate the assignment of all authors (according to the definition above) in the author list and declare that the authors have seen the final version of the manuscript and agree to its submission for publication.
2.8. Writing Rules: The author must ensure that the manuscript conforms to the editorial guidelines and editorial rules of the Journal.
2.9. Peer Review: Authors are required to participate in the peer review process and are obligated to cooperate fully by responding promptly to the editors' requests for raw data, clarifications, and evidence of ethical approval and copyright permissions. In the event of an initial decision of “revision required”, authors should revise and resubmit their manuscripts by the deadline for reviewers' comments in a systematic manner.
2.10. Major Errors in Published Works: Authors are obligated to notify journal editors or publishers immediately when they find major errors or inaccuracies in their published work and to cooperate with them to correct a typographical error or to withdraw the manuscript from publication. If the editors or publisher learns from a third party that a published manuscript contains a significant error or inaccuracy, the author has the obligation to immediately correct or withdraw the manuscript or to provide evidence to the editors of the journal that their determination is warranted.

3. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE REFERRERS
3.1. Contribution to the Evaluation Process: The referee is responsible for reviewing the candidate article for its conformity to the Turkish language, compliance with the editorial principles of Görünüm Journal, methodology, originality, contribution to the field, content, use of sources and adequacy.
3.2. Process: The candidate must respond to the invitation to review the article within the specified deadlines.
3.3. Confidentiality: All manuscript proposals submitted for review are confidential documents and should be treated as such. This also applies to reviewers who decline the invitation to review.
3.4. Impartiality Criteria: Comments on the manuscript proposal should be impartial and suggestions should be made in such a way that the authors can use them to improve the manuscript. Personal criticism of the authors is not appropriate.
3.5. Acceptance of Sources: Reviewers should identify relevant published work not cited by the authors. The reviewer should also inform the editor of any significant similarity between the manuscript under review and any other article (published or unpublished).
3.6. Conflicts of Interest: Conflicts of interest should be reported to the editor. There should be no conflict of interest between the reviewers and the stakeholders of the manuscript under review.
