The NAVSTAR GPS is a satellite-based radio navigation system providing precise three dimensional position, navigation and time information to suitably equipped users. The system consists of 24 satellite placed in orbits of about 20.200 km altitude above the earth surface. GPS has three segments. These segments are space, control and user. In this study, classical tacheometric method and the GPS Stop and Go measurements are compared. For this purpose, İstanbul Technical University’s Maslak Campus was chosen as the application site. At the comparing the methods, the 437 common points on the pavement sides especially are labelled by means of paint and then these points are measured by using both methods. Finally, their coordinates is calculated at the National Coordinate System (ED 50). The coordinate differences of 437 common points, simultaneously used both methods, are calculated and the obtained coordinates and coordinate differances are compiled in the form of tables.
NAVSTAR GPS uygun donanıma sahip kullanıcılara presizyonlu üç boyutlu konum, navigasyon ve zaman bilgisi sağlayan, uydulara dayanan bir navigasyon sistemidir . Sistem yerden yaklaşık 20.200 km yüksekte altı farklı yörüngeye yerleştirilmiş 24 uydudan oluşmaktadır. GPS sistemi üç ana bölümden oluşur. Bunlar ; uzay bölümü, kontrol bölümü ve kullanıcı bölümleridir
