Self-Transcendence has involved in psychology terminology with V. Frankl. The concept of self-transcendence discussed with by various disciplines has been investigated particularly by nurse theorists. The self-transcendence theory developed deductively through logical analysis by Pamela G. Reed. This theory aims to form a frame for practice and research related maintenance well-being when individuals and families are facing with difficult life situations such as loss or life-limiting disease. Nursing, which is holistic, humanistic and a science of care is concerned with how self-transcendence relates to human beings as a whole. Theoretical and empirical research regarding self-transcendence demonstrate that self-transcendence is associated with a great deal of mental health indicators. Self-transcendence is associated with health in relation to transcending individual and interpersonal boundaries. Nurses can use their knowledge of self-transcendence in various practices that support the well-being among their patients. The purpose of this review is to examine conceptual framework of self-transcendence theory.
