EDMUND BURKE’DE MUHAFAZAKÂR KORKU

Abstract

Ahlaki, politik, ekonomik ve başka ferdi ya da toplumsal eylemlere yön verici temel saikler içerisinde korku tutkusu diğer insani tutkular içerisinde mühim bir yer işgal etmektedir. Bu tesirin, çok yönlü yaşamın düzenlenmesinde ki öneminin araştırılması, bireyin daha yaşanabilir bir evren tasarımında/pratiğinde eylemlerine rehber olabilecek birörneklik sağlayacaktır. Bu nedenle, sonsuz ihtiyaçlarını sonlu doğayla nasıl karşılayabileceğine yönelik kurgulamasında kendi varlık niteliklerinin tanımı ve sınırlarının bilinmesi arzu ettiği evreni oluşturmada insana fayda sağlayacaktır. İnsan yaşamında tutkuların yeri üzerine düşünen ve gerek yaşadığı dönemde gerekse sonraki yıllarda birçok düşünürü etkileyen Burke, davranışların gerisinde yatan tutku/duygu nedenlerinin neler olduğunu ve insan eylemlerini nasıl etkilediğini incelemiştir. O, korkunun, akıl ve diğer insan nitelikleri üzerindeki etkisinin diğer tüm tutkulardan daha tesirli olduğunu iddia eder. Korkuyu bu derece etkili kılan özelliğin, sonucu ölüme kadar varabilen, acı etkisi taşıma vasfı olduğunu ifade eder. İnsanda yarattığı etkileri göz önüne alındığında korku tutkusu, fizik evren içerisinde ki nesnelerin korku oluşturmaya matuf bazı niteliklerinin bulunduğunu söyler. İşte, korkunun, gerek insanda belli davranışlara neden olma özelliği olsun, gerekse nesnelerdeki insanda korkuyu ortaya çıkaran nesne nitelikleri olsun insan eylemlerini oluşturma ve yön vermede mezkûr tutkunun büyük bir gücü vardır. Bu çalışma, muhafazakârlık denildiğinde ilk akla gelen kişi olan Burke’de muhafazakâr öznenin korku ile ilişkisini ele alma amacını taşımaktadır.

EDMUND BURKE’S CONSERVATIVE FEAR

Abstract

Within the basic motives that direct the moral, political, economic and other individual or social actions, the passion of fear occupies a significant place in other human passions. If the importance of this impact on organizing the multi-directional life is examined; it would set an example that could guide a person’s actions in the design of a more habitable universe. Therefore, knowing the definition and limits of his own qualities in the life set-up based on how infinite needs could be met by finite nature, would be beneficial for people when creating the desired universe. Burke, who thought about the place of passion in human life and who affected many philosophers both in his time and in the years to come; investigated what were there reasons for passion/feeling that lies behind a behavior, and how these reasons affected the human actions. He claims that the effect of fear on the mind and on other human qualities is much more powerful than all the other passions. He expresses that the feature what makes fear so effective, is the quality of enduring the pain, which might even lead to death. When the effects it creates on people, are taken into consideration; he states that objects found in a physical universe, have several qualities directed towards creating fear. Either the fear’s feature of causing a certain behavior on the people, or the qualities of an object which reveal the fear that the humans have, the aforementioned passion plays a great role in creating and directing the human actions. This study has the objective of examining the relationship between Burke’s conservative subject and fear, the first person who comes to mind when we say conservatism.
