ACCESS PROBLEMS FROM THE 2022 TURKEY HEALTH SURVEY: HEALTH INEQUALITIES? MEDICAL DESERTS?

Abstract

Health systems adopt as their primary goal the improvement of individual and public health and the development of policies and practices in this direction. At this point, one of the most important issues for health systems is access to healthcare services. Ensuring that all segments of society can access healthcare services is of urgent importance for the positive development of society’s health status. However, today, within global health systems, problems in accessing services are observed. The reasons for these access issues are debated by experts and policymakers. Based on this information, the present study aims to determine individuals’ unmet healthcare needs and their primary causes, as well as the overall level of health status, using data from the Turkey Health Survey (TSA). The study has a cross-sectional design and was conducted using the TSA 2022 data published by the Turkish Statistical Institute. The concept of medical deserts is addressed for the first time, and it was determined that both health inequalities and medical deserts affect access to healthcare.

2022 TÜRKİYE SAĞLIK ARAŞTIRMASINDAN ERİŞİM SORUNLARI: SAĞLIK EŞİTSİZLİKLERİ Mİ? TIBBİ ÇÖLLER Mİ?

Abstract

Sağlık sistemleri, birey ve toplumun sağlık düzeyini yükseltmeyi ve bu yönde politikalar ve uygulamalar geliştirmeyi en birincil amaç olarak benimsemektedir. Bu noktada sağlık sistemleri için en önemli konulardan birisi, sağlık hizmetlerine erişimdir. Toplumun bütün kesimlerinin sağlık hizmetlerine erişebilmesi, o toplum sağlık statüsünün pozitif anlamda gelişimi için aciliyet arz eden bir öneme sahiptir. Ancak günümüzde küresel sağlık sistemleri içerisinde hizmete erişim sorunlarının ortaya çıktığı görülmektedir. Bu erişim sorunlarının neden kaynaklandığı konunun uzmanları ve politika geliştiriciler tarafından tartışılmaktadır. Bu bilgilerden hareketle araştırma, Türkiye Sağlık Araştırmasında (TSA) yer alan bireylerin karşılanamayan sağlık ihtiyaçları ve temel nedenleri ile genel sağlık statüsü düzeyini belirlemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırma kesitsel bir tasarıma sahip olup, Türkiye İstatistik Kurumu tarafından yayınlanan TSA 2022 verileri kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Tıbbi çöl konusu ilk defa ele alınmış ve sağlığa erişimde hem sağlık eşitsizlikleri hem de tıbbi çölün etkilerinin olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
