Ameliyathanelerde Sürdürülebilirlik Uygulamaları: Hemşireler Bu Uygulamaların Neresinde?

Abstract

Günümüzde giderek artış gösteren iklim değişikliğinin etkileri, her geçen gün endişeleri artırmaktadır. Sağlık alanına da yansıyan bu etkiler, özellikle perioperatif bakımın sağlanmasında kullanılan ameliyathanelerdeki güncel uygulamaları ve bu uygulamaların iklim değişikliğine olan katkılarını da gündeme getirmektedir. Hastanelerdeki en fazla sarf malzeme ve enerji tüketimine, bunun yanında en fazla atık üretimine neden olan ameliyathanelerdeki cerrahi uygulamaların, oldukça yüksek oranlarda iklim krizine neden olduğu belirtilmektedir. Bu alanda henüz sayısı az olan, ancak perioperatif uygulamada sürdürülebilirlikle ilgili artan ilgiyle, gelecekte yapılacak olan araştırmalara rehberlik sağlayabilmek amacıyla hazırlanan bu derlemede, ameliyathanelerin çevreye olan etkilerinin açıklanması, iklim değişikliğinin önlenebilmesi ve sürdürülebilir eylemlerin gerçekleştirebilmesi için özellikle ameliyathanedeki karbondioksit ve diğer sera gazlarının emisyonları ile oluşan çevre kirliliğinin, karbon ayak izinin ve oluşan atıkların azaltılmasına yönelik uygulanabilecek perioperatif sürdürülebilirlik uygulamalarına ve hemşirelere düşen görevlere yer verilmiştir. Bu alanda yapılacak olan çalışmaların artmasıyla, sürdürülebilirlik uygulamalarının artacağı, ameliyathane kaynaklı çevre kirliği ve karbon ayak izinin azaltılabileceği öngörülmektedir.

Sustainability Practices in Operating Rooms: Where Are Nurses in These Practices?

Abstract

The effects of climate change, which are increasing day by day, increase concerns every day. These effects, which are also reflected in the field of health, bring the current practices in operating theatres, which are used especially in the provision of perioperative care, and the contribution of these practices to climate change to the agenda. It is stated that surgical practices in operating rooms, which cause the highest consumption of consumables and energy in hospitals, as well as the highest waste production, cause a climate crisis at very high rates. In this review, which is prepared in order to provide guidance for future researches with the increasing interest in sustainability in perioperative practice, the perioperative sustainability practices and the duties of nurses that can be applied to explain the effects of operating theatres on the environment, to prevent climate change and to reduce environmental pollution, carbon footprint and waste generated by emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases, especially in the operating theatre, and to carry out sustainable actions are included. With the increase in studies in this field, it is predicted that sustainability practices will increase, environmental pollution and carbon footprint of the operating room can be reduced.
