Abstract

Abstract

Microbiota, it is a population of microorganism found in different ecosystems of the body that perform many protective and metabolic functions that is important for human health and homeostasis. Within the entire microbiota population, intestine has the highest rate. Many factors are effective to show in the diversity and number of intestinal microbiota structure. Among the factors affecting the diversity of intestinal microbiota in the first year of life are; microbiota structure in the reproductive system of women, form of delivery, gestational week at birth, new-born nutrition, use of antibiotics, use of probiotics, and mothers’ nutrition habits. The effects of these factors affecting the neonatal intestinal microbiota structure start from the prenatal period. Although microbiota structure formed in the first years of life remain stable, it reaches high levels during the adulthood considering the numbers and varieties. It is important to explain that for the newborn to have a healthy intestine microbiota, health professionals who interact closely with the mother and newborn and consultancy and care services to be provided by midwives / nurses play an important role.
