Abstract

How to Do Meta-Analysis with SPSS?

Year 2019, Volume: 4 Issue: 1, 21 - 49, 30.06.2019

Abstract

In this study, it is aimed to introduce the
steps that need to be followed in a meta-analysis study and the macros (MEANES,
METAF and METAREG) which enable analysis of the meta-analysis in the SPSS
program. In this respect, the necessary hardware features for SPSS and macros,
access to the program, execution of the macros, details of the analyses and
output files were emphasized. In addition, sample applications have been demonstrated
using a simulated data set containing 30 studies, where the correlation
coefficient is considered to be the effect size. Mean effect size value
calculation, subgroup analysis and meta-regression analysis were performed
using the same data set in three different SPSS macros. Based on the results
obtained, the findings and interpretations which should be obtained for different
types of analysis were emphasized. As a result of the study, it was attempted
to give preliminary information about SPSS macros and the advantages and
disadvantages of macros were discussed.
