Human Factors In Aviation Maintenance: A Case-based Swot Analysis

Abstract

This study examined six major aviation accidents using SWOT analysis to examine the impact of human factors on flight safety in aviation maintenance processes. The analysis was limited to the themes of human error, maintenance process management, training, auditing, and organizational structure, as found in official accident reports. This systematic evaluation of humanrelated errors in maintenance activities aimed to identify existing strengths and weaknesses, identify improvement opportunities, and identify potential threats. The analysis revealed that errors committed by maintenance personnel are not solely the result of individual inadequacies, but also stem from multifaceted human factors such as lack of training, communication problems, time pressure, psychological stress, and organizational control weaknesses. The analysis of ACA, AC B, AC C, AC D, AC E and AC F accidents shows that human errors are directly related to organizational processes and safety culture. The findings suggest that human centered training, error management systems and psychological support mechanisms should be developed, as well as maintenance procedures should be supported by technological solutions. The research emphasizes that a holistic human factors approach should be adopted to improve maintenance safety in the aviation industry.
