Recently,
the belief in the expectation of a savior before the end of the world is one of
the most controversial issues. Muslim societies consider this matter as the
return of Jesus and Messianism. Some people frequently bring into questions on
the stories of Messianism in hadith sources and exploits this information. This
situation makes Islamic scholars must discuss the Messianism issue again. Also,
the approach of recent Islamic scholars on Messianism is markedly important.
This presentation addresses Messianism perception of Muhammed Tâhir b. Âşûr
(death. 1973) who is one of the remarkable Islamic scholars of the twentieth
century. He discusses Messianism issue focusing on both its place and historical
background in religion and some related reports. Ibn Âşûr examines Messianism
with a critical approach, unlike many Islamic scholars who consider Messianism
in a positive way.
