In the dictionaries,
the word “mevlid” means “place and time of birth” which refers to the place and
time where Prophet Muhammad was born particularly. As a literary term mevlid is
a piece written about the birth, the miracles that took place in the birth, the
life, the physical-moral qualities, and the decease of Prophet Muhammad. In the beginning mevlid was written as a part of the “siyer (life of
Prophet Muhammad) literaute” which gained an independent meaning over time.
Especially with esteem of Süleyman Çelebi's Mevlid, many mevlid texts were
written. One of these writings which was written by Seyyid Muhammad Ali Rıza,
amongst the 20th century poets was discussed in our work. The only known
manuscript of this Mevlid is recorded in Suleymaniye Library, Manuscript
Donations Collection No. 7161/1. In our study, after giving some information about mevlid, the mevlid text
entitled "Mevlûd-i Seydî" was examined in terms of form and evaluated
in terms of content. The author was introduced with the available information,
and finally, transcript of the mentioned copy was prepared.
