Abstract
Different interpretations in Quranic exegesis is called disagreement (ihtilâf). It is important that the differences are called disagreement. Because the term of disagreement bears both positive and negative meaning. In tafsir tradition, acceptable and unacceptable interpretations are regarded as disagreement. If we look at the studies of Quranic disciplines, disagreements are called as invalid, fasid and null, batıl. After tabii period, reasoning and te’vil developed and as a consequence, the problem of tevil emerged. In the early period, disagreements were regarded as batıl and fasid; after 8th century was regarded as variety, tenevvü and contradiction, tezâd and disagreement was not totally rejected. After this period, the disagreements were categorized into two categories: tenevvü and tezâd. In the present study, the categories concerning disagreements studied until now are examined. Finally, it is pointed out that the categorization is problematic and new terminology is stated.
