Abstract

Limbal dermoids are among the most common tumors of the corneal limbus. It may be isolated or accompanied to syndromes, especially Goldenhar syndrome. Patients generally present with low visual acuity, foreign body sensation, large ocular mass, and cosmetic discomfort. The diagnosis is made by ophthalmological examination. In the differential diagnosis, foreign body granuloma, staphyloma, hemangioma, atypical pterygium should be considered. Although it is a benign lesion, the treatment approach of this tumor, which is seen especially in childhood, is not only for cosmetic purposes, but mainly to prevent vision loss. In this article, we investigated the change of astigmatism after dermoid excision surgery in a 5-year-old male patient with high astigmatism, anisometropic amblyopia and corneal irritation findings due to limbal dermoid.

Abstract

Limbal dermoidler kornea limbusunun en sık görülen tümörleri arasında yer almaktadır. İzole olabileceği gibi özellikle goldenhar sendromu olmak üzere sendromlara eşik edebilir. Hastalar genel olarak düşük görme keskinliği, yabancı cisim hissi, büyük oküler kitle, kozmetik rahatsızlık şikayetleriyle başvururlar. Tanı oftalmolojik muayene ile konur. Ayırıcı tanıda yabancı cisim granülomu, stafilom, hemanjiom, atipik pterjium düşünülmelidir. Benign bir lezyon olmasına rağmen özellikle çocukluk çağında görülen bu tümöre tedavi yaklaşımı sadece kozmetik amaçlı olmayıp esasen görme kaybını engellemeye yöneliktir. Bu makalede limbal dermoide bağlı gelişen yüksek astigmatizma, anizometropik ambliyopi ve korneal irritasyon bulguları olan 5 yaşındaki erkek hastada dermoid eksizyonu ameliyatı sonrası astigmatizmanın değişimini inceledik.
