Using Exit Interview Techniques to Increase the Quality of Education at Geomatics Engineering Program

Abstract

Within this study, to assess the quality of Geomatics Engineering Program in ITU, the exit interview techniques are introduced. An exit interview is a direct assessment method conducted by the department of a graduating student. Thus this approach is named as graduation interview in several platforms. Within the department, exit interview was conducted by the Commission organized by three lecturers. The exit interview was applied to 35 recent graduates, after their graduation. The Commission prepared a questionnaire with the commission of Academic Evaluation and Quality Assurance, where interviews are conducted as face-to-face interview lasting 30 minutes. Graduating seniors are requested to complete an Exit Survey and participate in an Exit Interview conducted after the presentation of final graduation thesis. The feedback provided by graduating seniors is invaluable to the Department. The results of these interviews are documented, analyzed and evaluated, and are going to be discussed in detail within this study. The results are very promising. The question “Would you recommend this program?”, are being answered positively by all graduates, expect one. With the given answers to the other questions, the exit interview has introduced very valuable input to the efforts of continuous improvement of the Geomatics Engineering Program.

Çıkış Mülakatı Tekniğinin Geomatik Mühendisliği Programı Eğitim Kalitesini Arttırmak Amacıyla Kullanımı

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, İTÜ Geomatik Mühendisliği Programının kalite güvence sistemi dahilinde değerlendirilmesi için yararlanılan çıkış mülakat teknikleri ele alınmıştır. Doğrudan bir değerlendirme yöntemi olarak çıkış mülakatı, mezun olan öğrencinin bölümü ile yaptığı görüşme olarak değerlendirilmektedir. Bu nedenle bu görüşme bazı platformlarda mezuniyet mülakatı olarak ta isimlendirilmektedir. Çıkış mülakatı mezuniyet sonrasında, 35 yeni mezuna uygulanmıştır. Komisyon, Akademik Değerlendirme ve Kalite Geliştirme Komisyonunun da desteği ile hazırladığı anketi mezunlarla yaklaşık 30 dakika süren yüz yüze görüşme ile gerçekleştirmiştir. Mezunlar tarafından sağlanan bu geri beslemenin değeri çok fazladır. Belgelenmiş, analiz edilmiş ve değerlendirilmiş olan bu görüşmelerin sonuçları bu çalışmada genel olarak ele alınmış ve tartışılmıştır.
