Abstract
Having a child with an intellectual disability brings with it some stress sources. In this study, it was aimed to determine the hope status of parents with mentally retarded children and to compare them in terms of various variables. "Personal Information Form" and "Continuous Hope Scale" were used as data collection tools in the study. The research group consists of 155 parents residing in the province of Istanbul, whose child has been diagnosed with intellectual disability. In the analysis of the research data, independent sample t-test from parametric tests, Anova, Welch and Pearson correlation analysis were used. In the study, while the hope levels of the parents did not differ according to the kinship status; It has been determined that the hope levels of parents who take care of their children, who take common responsibility in housework, who receive social support from the state, who do not receive economic support, who have a high education level, who have a high income, who have other disabilities in their children, are high. There is a positive relationship between the age of the disabled child and the hope levels of the parents. Based on the research data, it has been seen that the hope levels of parents with high education and income levels, who receive help with child care and housework, are high.
