Abstract
In this study, which is a review study, it is aimed to address the developments and changes related to disability and education of the individuals with disabilities in Turkey and to discuss the obtained information within the framework of independent living, inclusion/integration. The concepts of injury, inadequacy and disability, which are related to the concept of disability, are mentioned and examples are given. From past to present, the concept of disabled has been expressed in different ways as individuals with special education need. Educational environments attended by individuals with disabilities appear as inclusion/integration environments and separate education environments. Apart from educational environments, home education and hospital education are also provided when needed. The number of departments opened for teacher training, which is important for the education of people with disabilities, has increased over time. In the 2021-2022 academic year, the number of departments related to special education was 50, 36 state, 8 foundation, 6 Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. This information is discussed in the discussion, conclusion and recommendations section, within the framework of independent living and inclusion/integration.
