Abstract

The Turkish Validity and Reliability of The Health Literacy About Vaccination Of Adults (HLVA)

Year 2024, , 350 - 369, 02.08.2024
https://doi.org/10.21020/husbfd.1290423

Abstract

Objective: This paper is an adaptation of the Health Literacy about Vaccination of Adults in ITalian (HLVa-IT) into Turkish.
Materials and Methods: The sample comprised 209 adults. Confirmatory factor analysis and criterion validity (estimation/predictive validity) were used for validity. Item-total score correlation, two-half test consistency, and Cronbach's alpha coefficient were used for reliability.
Results: A quarter of the participants were men (24.4%). Seven in ten participants had at least a bachelor's degree (70.8%). Three in five participants were married (63.2%). Over half of the participants were not trained in adult vaccines (54.5%), had not been informed about vaccines by health professionals (57.4%), and did not follow the websites of official sources about vaccines (58.9%). Confirmatory factor analysis showed that the model had the goodness of fit indices of χ2 =138.729, χ2/df =1.927, RMSEA= 0.067, CFI= 0.958, GFI= 0.919, and AGFI= 0.882. The scale had item-total score correlations ranging from 0.376 to 0.670. The functional vaccine literacy, interactive vaccine literacy, and critical vaccine literacy subscales had Cronbach's alpha values of 0.90, 0.82, and 0.81, respectively.
Conclusion: The HLVa-TR is a valid and reliable measure for assessing Turkish adults’ vaccine literacy.
