Metabolik Sendromda Adiponektin

Year 2007, Volume: 4 Issue: 2, 61 - 68, 01.08.2007

Abstract

Adıponectın In Metabolıc Syndrome

Year 2007, Volume: 4 Issue: 2, 61 - 68, 01.08.2007

Abstract

This review describes the pathophysiology of adiponectin and adiponectin receptors in insulin resistance, diabetes, and the metabolic syndrome. Recent progress in adipocyte biology shows thatadipocytes are not merely energy-storing cells but that theysecrete a variety of hormones cytokines, growth factors, andother bioactive substances. Adiponectin is an adipokine that is abundantly expressed in adipose tissue and directly sensitizes the body to insulin. This adipocytokine has various biofunctions, such as antidiabetic, antiatherosclerotic, and antiinflammatoryfunctions. The adiponectin receptors, AdipoR1 and AdipoR2, mediate the metabolic actions of adiponectin. Therefore, adiponectin and adiponectin receptors represent potential therapeutic targets to combat obesity-linked diseases characterized by insulin resistance
