A Study on the animal husbandry standards of Turkish Standards Institute
Abstract
Standards which can defined as a model in production, understanding, measuring and test, has emerged due to
necessity of get rid of confusion, and as a result of efforts to establish a specific order. Today, standards have become the
common language in international trade through the rapid development of information and manufacturing technology.
Standardization activities in Turkey started in 1930 when the provisions of Law 1705 “Prevention of Unfair Competition in
Trade and Protection and Supervision of the Exports” were published and put into force. The first regulations related to
commodities of animal origin and products that obtained those was prepared in 1934 regarding the export of shelled eggs.
After the Second World War, new regulations in the world economy has been planned and standardization and control
issues were also discussed in this context. "Norms and Standards Institute" was established in 1954 for the creation of
appropriate standards to this new approach. This organization has become the “Turkish Standards Institute” with Law No.
132 dated 11/18/1960 for the purposes of to form standards for all kinds of substances, products, procedures and services.
This study was carried out to examine and evaluate the standards which prepared Institute of Turkish Standards for
animals, animal husbandry and animal products.
