Investigation of Bluetongue Virus (BTV) Antibodies in Sheep and Goats in Şanlıurfa Province, Turkey

Abstract

The objective of this study was to describe the serological prevalence of Bluetongue Virus (BTV) infection in indigenous sheep and goat flocks in Şanlıurfa province in Turkey. For this purpose, 535 serum samples collected from 18 flocks were tested for BTV antibodies by agar gel immunodiffusion (AGID) test. In conclusion, all of 8 goat flocks and 10 sheep flocks were detected to be seropositive animals for BTV. Seropositivity rates for sheep flocks and goat flocks were varied between 76,19%-100% and 69,23%-95,24%, respectively. The result provided that the presence of BTV infection is common in indigenous sheep and goat flocks of Sanlıurfa province.
