The Seroprevalence of Akabane Virus (AKAV) and Ibaraki Virus (IBAV) Infections in Cattle in Aydın province

Abstract

In this study, presence and seroprevalences of Akabane Virus (AKAV) infection and Ibaraki Virus (IBAV) infection, two agent which transmitted by Culicoides ssp and effect infertility in cattle and causing serious economic losses, and their distribution in Aydın Province were investigated. For this purpose, 288 serum samples from different age groups of dairy cattle were collected from 4 different dairy cow enterprises and the presence of specific antibodies to AKAV and IBAV in these samples were investigated using micro neutralization test. Specific antibodies for AKAV was detected as 9,72% but no seropositivity was described for IBAV. AKAV seropositivity rate for age groups were varied between 0-20%. The result provides evidence the presence of AKAV infection is common in cattle in Aydın province.
