The Seroprevalence of Brucellosis in Sheep and Goats in the Adiyaman Region
Abstract
This study was performed to investigate the seroprevalance of ovine and caprine brucellosis in Adıyaman region.
A total of 272 (199 sheep and77 goats) sera samples were analyzed. For this study, commmercially available Enzyme-Linked
ImmunoSorbent Assay (ELISA) test kits were used. 92 (%46,23) of 199 sheep and 34 (%44,15) of 77 goats were found to be
seropositive for brucella antibodies, 70 (%44,3) of 158 ram and goats 26 (%47,46) of 118 ewe and nanny goats were found
to be seropositive 27 (%77,14) of 35 aborted ewe, 11 (%68,75) of 16 aborted nanny goats were seropositive for the disease.
Seropositivity rates in aborted sheep and goats were higher than in non aborted animals. As a result, high brucella
seropositivety rates were obtained in sheep and goats in Adıyaman region.
