Pathomorphological Findings of Coenurus cerebralis in Sheep
Abstract
In this study; pathomorphological findings were evaluated of Coenurus cerebralis in sheeps the study material
were formed total 7 sheeps that symptoms seen such as ataxia, incoordination, parasis, teeth grinding and circling, were
referred to the pathology department between the years of 2011-2014. At necropsy, the different sizes cystic structures
were encountered in the brain hemisphere. The cysts were filled with clear colored liquid abundant amount. There were
many white scolex within the cyst. Atrophy was observed due to the pressure of cystic structure in brain tissue. Tissue
samples taken from the brain were fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin and processed routinely. The sections were
stained with haematoxylin-eosin (H&E). Histopathological examination were seen hyperemia of the vessels in areas close to
the cyst, the cyst capsule infiltration of perivascular cuffing and giant cells around the abundance mononuclear cell
infiltration. In addition, a small number of neurons degeneration and necrosis with demyelination, non-purulent meningitis,
mild microgliosis and astrocytosis was found. As a result, that establishes pathomorphological findings in animals with
clinical symptoms consistent with the literature data showed Coenurus cerebralis.
