Abstract
The aim of this review is to put forward the present situation and the potential of cattles, sheep, and goats
breeding in Elazığ. Eastern Anatolia is considerably significant in agriculture and animal production in Turkey. Elazığ is one of
the most prominent cities of this area in which its public sustain themselves by animal production. For this reason, it is very
important to define the condition, potential and problems of breeding sector especially with respect to the cattle, sheep,
and goat stock in this city. Correspondingly, it could be possible to find short, average and long term solutions for the
identified issues. As a result, Elazığ has a noteworthy situation in the area especially in cattle, sheep and goat stock, in the
traits of animal production and the employment ratio, that’s why it appears as a local model of general animal production
in Turkey.

Abstract
Bu derlemenin amacı; Elazığ İli’nin sığır, koyun ve keçi yetiştiriciliğinin mevcut durumunu ve potansiyelini güncel
verilerle ortaya koymaktır. Türkiye’nin tarım ve hayvancılık sektörü içerisinde Doğu Anadolu Bölgesi’nin önemli bir yeri
vardır. Elazığ İli, bu bölgenin en önemli illerinden birisi olup, halkın geçim kaynakları arasında hayvancılık faaliyetleri
oldukça önemlidir. Bu nedenle ilin hayvancılık sektörünün özellikle büyük ve küçükbaş hayvan varlığı açısından mevcut
durumunun, potansiyelinin ve sorunlarının belirlenmesi önemlidir. Bu sayede tespit edilen sorunlara yönelik kısa, orta ve
uzun vadeli çözümler geliştirmek mümkün olabilecektir. Sonuç olarak; Elazığ İli özellikle sığır, koyun ve keçi varlığı, hayvansal
üretim özellikleri ve istihdamdaki yeri itibarıyla bölgede dikkat çekici bir yapı gösterip, Türkiye’de ise genel hayvancılık
yapısının yerel düzeydeki küçük bir modeli gibi görünmektedir.
